Why is Chipotle closing all their restaurants for a day?

The year 2015 was a year of big changes at Chipotle. Earlier in the year, they announced that they would be changing the recipe of their tortillas from 64 ingredients to simple well known ones like water, whole wheat flour, oil, and salt.

They also announced in a press release entitled “G-M-Over It” that they would be getting rid of all genetically modified organisms in their menu.

However, it was also a very difficult year towards the end, with a serious outbreak of E. Coli that spread to 9 states in the U.S. and affected hundreds of people. The company has decided to take action.

So why is Chipotle closing all their restaurants for a day?

The company has decided to hold a national staff meeting next month to discuss food safety.

The meeting will happen on February 8th and the company’s over 1,900 restaurants will all take part.

Chipotle said that the meeting would give them a chance to thank all employees, talk about changes, and answer questions.

CEO of Chipotle Steve Ells stated earlier this week that he hopes the CDC will soon declare the outbreaks over.

We know that Chipotle is as safe as it’s ever been before,” Ells said on Jan. 13 at a conference in Orlando.

Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold stated that there hasn’t been a new E. Coli case linked to Chipotle in months, and that the restaurants have been serving a million customers a day “without incident.
