Valentine’s Day is here, and there is no better fruit to start your day with than pomegranate.

It is in season from September through March, so now is the last chance to stock up before they are gone.

This holiday is all about love and the heart. Let’s take a closer look the ingredients in this Valentine’s Day pomegranate smoothie, and find out why it is good for the heart.

Almond milk:
They are excellent sources of, vitamin E, folic acid, omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, all of which are good for the heart. Almonds are natural powerhouses and have shown benefits in lowering cholesterol, which aids in heart health as well.

Bananas:
They are an excellent source of natural sugars. Bananas have shown health benefits in the area of cancer prevention and heart health because of their high levels of antioxidants. They also help aid in digestion, promote healthy bones, lower blood pressure, and more.

Pomegranates:
They are champions when it comes to antioxidants. A UCLA study ranked fruit juices from highest to lowest in antioxidant levels, and pomegranate juice came out on top. Antioxidants kill disease causing free radicals and keep the heart healthy.

Process the following ingredients in a blender:

1 cup of almond milk
1 banana
1 cup of pomegranate seeds
