Rosehips may reduce belly fat

Rosehips may reduce belly fat

Rosehips are the fruits that come from the rose plant. They have been used for a myriad of health conditions for millenniums. Now, new research from Japan is showing that rosehips may reduce belly fat and treat obesity.

Previous studies have shown that rosehips can help inhibit weight gain in animals, but it was unclear whether these benefits would translate to humans.

The researchers from Japan conducted a 3-month, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study. There were 32 participants with a body mass index in between 25 and 30. A BMI score in this range is considered overweight, but not obese.

Every day of the study, the participants received a tablet that was either a placebo, or 100 mg of rosehip extract. During the study, the participants did not change their diets.

The research team measured abdominal fat, body fat percentage, body weight, and body mass index (BMI) throughout the trial.

After the study, abdominal fat, visceral fat, body weight, and BMI levels were all significantly decreased in the rosehip group when compared to the placebo group.

The study authors believe that rosehips may be a useful supplement for reducing belly fat and treating obesity.

They also noted that by reducing fat, rosehip may also help prevent heart disease.

The study showing that rosehips may reduce belly fat was published in the journal Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy.
