There is a lot of pressure on people to be in love, especially on Valentine’s Day. While it is great to love others, your first have to love yourself.

When you love yourself, you can be the best YOU to everyone around you. Let’s take a look at 5 best ways to love YOU this Valentine’s Day.

1. Better yourself:

With the new year upon us, personal growth is a big theme. It is a time to bolster on your strengths and make them even better, and a time to improve in weaknesses.

Celebrate where you shine, but look for ways to improve in areas where you don’t (therapy, coaching, courses, mentors, books),” life coach and consultant Dinorah Nieves, PhD told the Huff Post. “Don’t let a few struggles dull the light you were born to share.“

2. Make time for you:

What are some things you love to do, that you don’t usually have time for? Maybe it’s taking a walk, listening to your favorite record, binging on a great TV show.

There are ways to fit “me time” into any schedule. If you commit to it, you will discover it,” Nieves said.

3. Treat yourself:

It doesn’t have to be anything huge, but getting yourself something you love at least once a month can add some joy to your day. Maybe it’s a pair of shoes you wanted, a set of trendy headphones, or even a relaxing bath bomb from your favorite cosmetics store. Treat yourself!

4. Give yourself some credit:

Be happy about your accomplishments and who you are. Don’t be afraid to give yourself a compliment either.

Working on yourself and fawning over yourself are not mutually exclusive,” Nieves writes. “Remember that it’s okay to blow yourself a kiss once in a while.”

5. Don’t feel bad about loving yourself:

Don’t feel ashamed about taking time to work on yourself, and don’t feel like you have to defend it to those around you.

Nieves writes: “People who are not ready to embrace it, will often try to find ways to make you feel guilty about it. At the very least, their doubts can easily make you question your commitment. Spare yourself the public trial. Stay balanced and let the chips of public opinion fall where they may.”
