Trader Joe’s has recalled cashews because of Salmonella

Salmonella is a group of bacteria that is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the United States.

As outlined by Foodsafety.gov: “Usually, symptoms last 4-7 days and most people get better without treatment. But, Salmonella can cause more serious illness in older adults, infants, and persons with chronic diseases. Salmonella is killed by cooking and pasteurization.”

Trader Joe’s has recalled cashews because of salmonella.

As written in the statement from Trader Joe’s:

We have been alerted by our supplier of Trader Joe’s Raw Cashew Pieces (barcode number 00505154) that there is a possibility that one specific lot with the following code may be contaminated with Salmonella: “BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4”

Trader Joe’s has removed all of the products in this line and urges customers to either throw the product away if you bought it or return it to the store for a refund.

According to the statement, no illnesses have been reported thus far.
