Flaxseed oil treats carpal tunnel

Flaxseed oil treats carpal tunnel

Flaxseeds are packed with nutrition. They are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation, slow down aging, and even act as antioxidants. New research shows that flaxseed oil treats carpal tunnel.

It was a double-blind, randomized clinical study which included 100 participants from ages 18-65 years old.

All the participants had mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.

The patients were divided into two groups — one was treated with flaxseed oil, while the other group received a placebo oil.

Both groups wore a wrist splint during sleep, and applied flaxseed oil onto their wrists and hands every day for a month.

After a month, the flaxseed oil group had significant relief of symptoms when compared to the placebo group.

Before and after the study, the participants took surveys that analyzed pain and symptom levels. After the study, the participants who took flaxseed oil scored much better on their surveys.

The authors of the study concluded: “It seems that linseed oil could be effective in the management of mild and moderate carpal tunnel syndrome, especially in improving the severity of symptoms and functional status. In addition, its effect on electerodiagnostic parameters, especially on the nerve conduction velocity, can be considered as a valuable point.”

The study showing that flaxseed oil treats carpal tunnel was published in the DARU Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
