Flea repellent

  • Fleas can be a problem. It is getting hot and they are everywhere. Fleas lay 60 eggs per day and multiply quickly. The majority of the fleas are in your pet’s bedding and the carpet.
  • Trying natural repellents is the way to go. It will be best for your pets’ health and yours too.
  • You must be aggressive to control and eliminate fleas.
  • Flea repellent:
  • Fleas hate peppermint oil.
  • 1. Peppermint oil:
  • a) If you have a dog make a peppermint shampoo.
  • Mix 3 tbsp of unscented Dr Bronner castille soap and add 5 drops of essential peppermint oil. Shampoo your pet 2 to 3 times a week until the fleas are gone. Make sure you use a flea comb.
  • b) You can also spray your dog directly by mixing 25 drops of essential peppermint oil with 1 cup of water and rub it in its fur.
  • c) Add 2o drops of peppermint essential oil in 1 cup of water. Put the solution a spray bottle. Spray under kitchen cabinets, cracks, hard to reach areas and doors. Repeat once a week.
  • 2. White distilled vinegar:
  • Fleas also hate the smell of vinegar. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water and spray on your pets to help get rid of fleas. Its a safe yet natural way to treat fleas. 
  • 3. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV):
  • Apple Cider Vinegar is potent:
  • Fleas hate it. Mix 2tsp of ACV with 1 cup of water, spray your animals and rub it into their fur.
    You can also add apple cider vinegar into your animals’ drinking water. Start with 1 tsp and slowly increase the amount to two tablespoons for 1 gallon of water.
  • 4. Eucalyptus:
  • Place cotton balls soaked in eucalyptus essential oil around the house. Keep out of  your pets reach.
  • 5. Diatomaceous Earth:
  • Diatomaceous Earth was approved and registered by the Environmental Protection Agency and can be used to kill indoor and outdoor crawling insects
     
  • Cats are more sensitive than dogs:
  • Scruff your cat by the neck to apply edible diatomaceous earth. This method has a calming effect on cats.

    Sprinkle a thin layer of edible diatomaceous earth all over your cat’s body. Do not get the dust in your cat’s eyes, nose or mouth. Once applied, keep it for 24 hours and shampoo after.

  • NOTE: The ultimate weapon with fleas is the Flea Comb. 
  • Yes, you can use on your cat too. Keep your house and your pets as clean as possible. Wash your dog more often during the summer. Vacuum daily. Mop floors daily with 1 part white distilled vinegar and 5 parts warm water. 
  • Wear a mask as not to inhale the Diatomaceous Earth. It can be harmful if inhaled.
