  • Carpal tunnel syndrome is pain caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist that gets worse and worse over time.
  • According to Mayo Clinic, “A number of factors can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome, including the anatomy of your wrist, certain underlying health problems and possibly patterns of hand use.
  • The good news is that with the right treatment and diet, carpal tunnel syndrome can usually be overcome.
  • Lets look at some key foods to include in your diet that my help if you have carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • Cayenne pepper:
  • It may relieve pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • It is very high in capsaicin. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, capsaicin is an effective pain reliever when applied externally.
  • Tip: Apply a dime size of ointment made with capsaicin around your wrist. Do so 2 to 3 times a day.
  • You can also start including organic cayenne pepper daily to spice up your foods and add in your tea or soups (about 1/4 tsp).
  • Chamomile tea: It is often used to help relax nerves and sleep.
  • Less known is chamomile’s anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.
  • It contains potent compounds like bisabolol, chamazulene and cyclic ethers, which are anti-inflammatory agents, and help relieve carpal tunnel pain.
  • Tip: Drink 1 cup of organic chamomile tea on a daily basis, add 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper and 1 tsp of raw honey or coconut nectar to it.
  • Cumin:
  • All of the foods that help with carpal tunnel syndrome have anti-inflammatory properties and Cumin is among them.
  • The exotic flavor of cumin can be added to your dishes to spice them up and provide pain relief at the same time.
  • Tip: Drink cumin tea on a regular basis.
  • Recipe:In 3 cups of water add 1tsp of cumin seeds and boil for 2 minutes. Let it cool, strain the seeds. Add 1 tsp of raw honeyor coconut nectar.
  • Pineapples:
  • The juice from pineapples contains bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory enzyme. This enzyme can rival potent pharmaceuticals such as NSAIDs and steroids.  When bromelain is combined with Indian spice “turmeric” it is even more potent.  It can alleviate carpal tunnel pains.
  • Tip: Drink fresh pineapple juice with 1/3 tsp of turmeric and try do so on a regular basis.
  • Turmeric:
  • The powder has anti-inflammatory properties comparable to steroidal and non-steroidal drugs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen). These drugs are often prescribed for carpal tunnel, so turmeric is a great natural alternative for the same pain relieving properties.
  • Tip: Add organic turmeric to your food (about 1/2 tsp), add to your tea or take in supplement form. Make sure it comes from a reputable source.
  • Willow bark:
  • It contains aspirin. It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Its anti-inflammatory compounds called salicylates can help relieve pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • Tip: It is recommended to take about two teaspoons of dried ground bark three times daily. Because of the bitter taste, take it with raw honey or in a fruit juice or hot water.
  • Do not take willow bark if you are sensitive or allergic to salicylates like aspirin.
  • According to the University of Maryland Medical Center,People with asthma, diabetes, gout, gastritis, hemophilia, and stomach ulcers should also avoid willow bark.Children under 16 should not take willow bark, because of the risk of developing Reye syndrome.
