A turmeric compound regenerates brain stem cells, according to new research.

Turmeric is one of the most potent healing spices in the world. It is one the most researched plants in the world. There are so many reasons to eat turmeric. The medicinal properties of turmeric have been the subject of over 6000 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies.

Most of the benefits of turmeric are traced back to a compound called curcumin. However, the brain stem cell benefits are linked to a less well-known compound called aromatic-turmerone.

The study showed that the compound increased brain stem cell growth by up to 80 percent at certain doses.

The study findings suggest that aromatic-turmerone may help in brain function recovery in diseases like Alzheimer’s and stroke.

As stated in the Time piece:

“[T]he same research group found that rodent neural stem cells grew when they were bathed in a solution of aromatic-turmerone. The cells bathed in the turmeric compound also appeared to specialize into certain types of brain cells more rapidly.

‘It is interesting that it might be possible to boost the effectiveness of the stem cells with aromatic-turmerone,’ Maria Adele Rueger, a researcher on the team, told the BBC. ‘And it is possible this in turn can help boost repair in the brain.’”

Previous research has also shown turmeric potential to produce remarkable recoveries in Alzheimer’s patients.

The study showing that aromatic-turmerone, a turmeric compound regenerates brain stem cells was published in the journal Stem Cell Research & Therapy.
