Turmeric beats aspirin for heart disease prevention, according to a research published in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism.

The new study showed that turmeric extract significantly improved the health of blood vessels of healthy people in a matter of months.

The study involved 59 healthy adults who were given either a placebo, 50 mg of turmeric, or 200 mg of turmeric for 8 weeks.

The group that received 200 mg showed a “clinically substantial” increase in blood vessel health, according to the study authors. Blood vessel health is essential to heart health and to preventing heart disease.

The authors summarized the results:

“In apparently healthy adults, 8 weeks of 200 mg oral curcumin supplementation resulted in a clinically meaningful improvement in endothelial function as measured by FMD. Oral curcumin supplementation may present a simple lifestyle strategy for decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.”
