It is official: Wendy’s removes soda from kids’ meals.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) reports that the popular fast food chain will stop serving soda on the kids’ menu.

When ordering a kids’ meal, the customer is asked what beverage they prefer,” Bob Bertini, spokesman for Wendy’s wrote in a letter to USA Today. “The change is the kids’ meal beverage options which are shown on our menu boards.”

Kids will now have the options of bottled water, apple juice, milk, or chocolate milk.

The decision came after the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility filed a resolution suggesting that Wendy’s removes soda from kids’ meals.

We applaud Wendy’s for prioritizing children’s health and providing more nutritious beverage options,” said ICCR member Michael Crosby in a CSPI press release. “Beyond the obvious health risks for kids, is the reputational risk these unhealthy drinks carry for the company. As their investors, we are pleased to see them address this important concern.”

This action comes a year after McDonalds partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and agreed to remove soda from Happy Meals. However, in the fine print, it showed that McDonalds only stopped advertising soda, but still included it on menu boards.

McDonalds only officially removed soda from Happy Meals when the CSPI threatened litigation for misleading the public.

  1. Probably just as much sugar in the apple juice and chocolate milk! Water should be the only beverage in the kids meal. Human kids sure don’t need cow’s milk, after all they aren’t calves! When is America going to wake up about dairy? Bet if there was no more dairy (milk, cheese, ice cream) in America the obesity rates would fall dramatically!
