According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

[boxListeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem in the United States. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected. The risk may be reduced by following recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storage.[/box]

The CDC recently released a statement announcing listeria linked to Dole packaged salad.

Dole voluntarily recalled all salad mixes produced in the Springfield, Ohio facility.

The CDC classifies this as a multi-state outbreak, reporting that 12 people in six different states have been hospitalized after eating salads from the brands Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar and President’s Choice.

According to the CDC: Consumers can identify recalled salad mixes by the letter “A” at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package.

If you have any of these products in your home, please throw them away immediately.
