Ginger and lentil detox soup

Soup, like smoothies and juices are a great way of combining multiple healthy ingredients into one. This makes soups a very convenient food, and keeps the health benefits alive and potent. This ginger and lentil detox soup is packed with potent legumes, herbs, and vegetables. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients in this soup.

Black pepper:
It is the most popular spice in the world, and for good reason. It speeds up metabolism, which is great for weight loss. An ingredient in black pepper called piperine inhibits the spreading of rectal cancer cells, according to a study published in Experimental and Molecular Pathology.

Carrots:
These deliciously orange vegetables are an excellent source of beta-carotene, which is a potent infection fighting antioxidant and immune booster.

Garlic:
This herb is a potent healing medicine. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties and is even known to reduce the inflammation caused by arthritis.

Himalayan salt:

It is an unprocessed, unrefined, and raw salt, packed with many essential ingredients like nature intended.

Lentils:

Lentils and other legumes are great sources of iron, which is a nutrient that the body needs to metabolize fats that we eat. They also reduce cholesterol.

Onions:
Onions are an excellent source of a sulfur molecule called Onionin A, which inhibits the activity of the white blood cells that cause inflammation. Onions are also packed with antioxidants, the most potent being quercetin. This antioxidant also provides anti-inflammatory benefits.

Turmeric:
The superspice has antiviral, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties, and has shown benefits in the area of breast cancer prevention, cold and flu, heart health, and Alzheimer’s.

Directions:

Heat 2 tbsps of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat
Add 3 chopped carrots and one red onion to the oil
Cover and cook for 3 minutes until the vegetables are soft
Add tsps of grated ginger and 2 garlic cloves, chopped and cook 1 more minute
Add a pinch of salt, 1/2 tsp of black pepper, and 1/4 tsp of turmeric
Cook for 1 more minute
Add 2 cups of chicken or vegetable broth, and 3 cups of water
Add 1 cup of red lentils
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat
Simmer for 25 minutes or until lentils are soft
Remove from heat, garnish with chopped cilantro, and serve
