Make your own coconut oil

Coconut oil is every versatile oil. It can be used as a beauty aid and  is a favorite in many kitchens.

Most of use grew up considering fats like coconut oil to be unhealthy and contribute to heart disease. Coconut oil is composed of a group of unique fat molecules known as medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA). Although they are technically classified as saturated fats, this fat can actually protect the heart.

Coconut oil which is extracted from the meat of the coconut and is a heart healthy food and has many health benefits.

Coconut oil is rich in nutrients such as vitamin E, which keeps skin and hair healthy, and medium chain fatty acids such as Capric Acid, Caprylic Acid, Caproic Acid & Lauric Acid.

These acids increase the rate of metabolism in the body and helps with weight loss.

It also helps increase good cholesterol and reduces bad cholesterol.

How to make coconut oil step by step:

1. Open the coconut shell

2. Remove the meat

3. Cut the meat into small pieces

4. Process the coconut meat in a blender on medium speed until shredded

5. Pour the processed coconut little by little onto a coffee filter or cheesecloth, squeezing the milk out into a jar

6. Let the milk sit for 24 hours

7. The oil will separate from the milk, leaving a layer of curd at the top

8. Refrigerate until curd hardens

9. Scoop the curd out

Voila: you have fresh organic, homemade coconut oil in your jar.

How to use coconut oil?

Coconut oil works well for cooking.

It is especially tasteful when paired with greens like kale, swiss chard and spinach.

TIPS: You can use it to sauté garlic, chives or onions.

Use also for salad dressing as an alternative to olive oil.
