According to the Arthritis Foundation, more than 50 million adults have some form of arthritis. The most common symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion.

1. Turmeric:
A 2016 study found that arthritis patients who took turmeric had more improvements in their symptoms than those who took ibuprofen. They also experienced less side effects.

2. Pineapple:
Pineapple contains bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory enzyme. This enzyme can rival potent pharmaceuticals such as NSAIDs and steroids.  When bromelain is combined with Indian spice “turmeric” it is even more potent. Reducing inflammation can help reduce pain associated with arthritis.

3. Lentils:
They are potent legumes with inflammatory benefits. Dr. Weil, a leading physician and health expert recommends 1-2 servings of lentils per day in his anti-inflammatory food pyramid.

4. Omega-3s:
A 2016 study showed that including omega-3s in your diet may help prevent rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3s also have powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. Omega-3s are found in cold-water fish such as salmon and mackerel. They are also found in supplements like fish oil.

5. Garlic:
Garlic contains an item called diallyl disulfide, which may help with arthritis.  “This compound may have some effect in limiting cartilage-damaging enzymes,” says rheumatologist Scott Zashin, MD, clinical professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
